Reducing the Risk of “Leaky Gut” During a Dietary Change
The holiday season begins this month and I don’t know about you but I appreciate having resilience in my body, strong digestive fire and a balanced nervous system to weather the occasional stress from travel and endless parties and gatherings.
Meet Ruth
Case: Last months’ 65 year old woman, Ruth, was doing well on her liver supportive program.
She recently presented with concerns around veering from her new diet and the impact it could have on her digestive system; nausea, belly aches, heartburn and constipation.
When our gastrointestinal tract is exposed to … food irritants like GMOs, glyphosate (aka Monsanto’s Round Up), gluten, refined sugar, etc. damage can occur to the junctions between the cells lining the surface. Naturopathic doctors coined the term “leaky gut” to describe this inflammatory process.
Process and Results
I recommended Ruth start a daily supplement called ION* Gut Health; rare mineral acid complexes shown to quickly strengthen tight junctions between cells in the face of dietary allergens or chemicals.
We also discussed having Herbal Temple Bitters on hand to take before meals. Classic herbal bitters have been used throughout centuries to soothe gas, bloating and indigestion.
Lastly, we discussed a nervous system tonic with a botanical called Man Vine to support anxiety, insomnia and stress related indigestion.
A few proactive steps will go a long way this season.
Cheers!
