Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle hands-on treatment which releases tension patterns in the body to re-establish the optimal flow of the cranial rhythm throughout the body. The cranial rhythm is a subtle wave created by the circulation of the cerebrospinal fluid which surrounds the brain and spinal cord, protecting and nourishing it.

Using a soft touch, restrictions to this flow are released, which can relieve pain, increase mobility, reduce stress, improve function, lessen the effects of injury, and optimize brain function. Craniosacral is also excellent for addressing the emotional response to trauma which has been held in the body.

During the session, the patterns of stress our bodies have adapted over the course of our lives have a chance to unwind, making room for a new vitality and a deep sense of peace and contentment. Most people feel very relaxed by the end of the session, which takes place while fully clothed. It is suitable for people of all ages including babies, children, and the elderly. Common ailments which can be addressed with craniosacral therapy include:

  • Anxiety, insomnia, or depression
  • Brain, head, or spinal cord injuries
  • TMJ (temporomandibular disorder)
  • Traumatic Brain Injury

Intra-Oral Therapy - an advanced CranioSacral technique

Intra-oral therapy is an Advanced CranioSacral technique that is often added to a CranioSacral session.  During Intra-Oral Therapy your practitioner will wash their hands, put on gloves and use light or moderate pressure to specific points inside the mouth to help relax the jaw and treat conditions such as headaches and temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD). Techniques used include myofascial work to the muscles of the jaw from both inside and outside the mouth and a gentle CranioSacral technique used on the roof of the mouth. This treatment is often combined with massage to the neck, external jaw and face.
