Shamanic Healing and Journeying
WHAT IS SHAMANIC HEALING?
Shamanic practitioners are those who are called to help others heal and gain clarity. The shamanic approach to healing differs from traditional western approaches in that it recognizes there are more healing resources available than those accessible in the physical realm alone. These resources can help address physical ailments by addressing their underlying emotional and spiritual causes.
WHY SHAMANIC HEALING?
The main purpose of shamanic healing is to restore balance and vital energy as well as to help facilitate the removal of energetic blocks that might hinder that restoration.
HOW IT WORKS
One of the primary ways shamanic practitioners access these resources is through a practice known as journeying. Journeying involves entering into an altered state of consciousness where information and healing can be accessed on behalf of a person, animal, or situation in need, with the help of guiding spirits.
The most common means of creating an altered state of consciousness is through the use of a simple steady drum beat. This drum beat shifts the brain away from beta waves—every day “monkey mind” waves—and into alternating alpha and theta waves (the same brain waves that occur during meditation), helping the shamanic practitioner to better hear and see.
